“I AM he who exists.” God is self-existent; He does not rely on any other being for His existence. He was not created and is the Creator of all things that are living. So the name “I AM” represents the singular quality of self-existence that only The Lord possesses.

Maybe some of you get depressive and suicidal thoughts. They wear at your heart, and they come thick, fast and terrible:

I AM HOPELESS
I AM HELPLESS
I AM STUPID
I AM USELESS
I AM UNLOVABLE
I AM UNWORTHY
I AM UNDESERVING
I AM NOT HOLY ENOUGH
I AM NOT ENOUGH

But you are made in God’s image. So these thoughts – chained tightly with shame, fear, guilt and self-hate – are an attack on the image of God.

When these thoughts come, it is the devil fighting with God for you. You were never in the battle; you are the battlefield. You are the territory which is being fought over. And God is fighting for you.

Do not accept these thoughts as reality, because really, when you think of “I AM”, you are thinking of God.
How you think about God will affect how you think about yourself. In your moment of struggle, let the I AM affect the I am.
