Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
The biblical metaphor of Jesus as a bridegroom points to His sacrificial love for His bride, the Church.
Indeed, we celebrate Christmas because Jesus came to be with mankind and save us.
Truly, it is easy and rightful to rejoice in life when we feel that Jesus is near to us.
But just as life has seasons of joy, it has seasons of mourning. In times when we feel like Jesus is far away – those may well be times when we should fast.
Whether you feel Jesus is near or far from you, pray today knowing that God is ever with us thanks to Jesus’ finished work on the Cross.
