ā€œI just wanted to disappear. Specifically, I wanted to disappear to an isolated and desolate place that reflected how I felt inside.ā€ said Holly Baxter, who spent five weeks along the Trans-Siberian Railway in Russia.

At some point, maybe youā€™ve thought of escaping, for real ā€“ to a place where thereā€™s no need to keep up with appearances or show up for a job.

Thatā€™s one way of harmonising our feelings: Changing the external to match whatā€™s happening on the inside.

Almost all of us would have experienced what itā€™s like to run a fever. And one of the most uncomfortable things then is having an icy-cold towel on your forehead when all you want to do is curl up in a thick blanket. Itā€™s safe there ā€“ away from the attack of the chills and cold towels.

But what really needs to be changed is whatā€™s happening on the inside.

Our anxious and restless running-away from our feverish heart reflect an absence of peace within, and not merely the difficulty from our challenges.

Somethingā€™s off on in inside. And we would place a stethoscope our hearts, what will it say about the state of our souls?

Unfulfilled and conflicting desires are the cause of our unrest. When our desires get out of control, they become our worst enemy.

Donā€™t let your desires pull you in all directions and keep you going nowhere.

These are 3 questions we can ask ourselves that might save our lives:

3 QUESTIONS TO QUENCH RESTLESSNESS

1. What kind of person should I be?

Take a moment to think about that question before you write an answer down. Spend some time with God on that question. It’s not an easy one because our answer necessitates changes, adjustments and sacrifices in our life.

Ask Him to give you a picture of the person you are to become. This vision will help to keep you going when the mission gets tough.

A vision will lead you. If God tells you to be more generous, you’ll know that the decisions you make in life mustĀ lead to more generosity.

You may not always feel generous, but God will lead you to your destiny even ā€” especially ā€” when you don’t feel like it.

2. What am I living for?

If you don’t have an answer, then your thoughts and feelings ā€” which are more prone to change than you may realise ā€” will be your only guide.

That’s why it’s easy to do what feels good to us, to follow what everybody else is doing. It becomes natural toĀ follow your heart. But the heart is deceitfulĀ (Jeremiah 17:9).

So what kind of person should I be? In fulfilling God’s destiny for your life, you must be careful not to squander and waste time on the temporal because every choice has its consequences.

3. What am I doing with my time?

Think about what’s frequently at our millennialĀ fingertips these days: Instagram, Facebook, Netflix, YouTube andĀ porn. Some are more innocuous than others, but most are still the well-worn holes we crawl into for worldly comfort when we need to escape.

“Blessed be theĀ God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies andĀ God of all comfort,Ā who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

But we have the God of all comfort on our side. Jesus offers to carry your burdens ā€” the weary weights of this world. You must give them to Him because they are far too heavy for you. You were never made to do this alone.

Give God the best time of your day. Don’t wake up, and make the first action of your day a grasping for your phone in the darkness. Start your mornings on your knees. Have lunches with God.

Time spent with God is time not wasted ā€” never regretted.

BONUS: WHOM HAVE I IN HEAVEN BUT YOU?

” … And earth has nothing I desire besides you.Ā My flesh and my heart may fail,Ā but God is the strength of my heartĀ and my portion forever.ā€ That’s fromĀ Psalm 73.

When you can earnestly ask this question ā€” and know the answer in your heart ā€” something changes. Life may deal you all kinds of bad hands, but at the end of each broken day, you will still know you are loved and cared for by God.

Your flesh and heart may fail ā€” you might miss the mark ā€” but God will carry you through this heavenward journey.

Don’t let human weakness be your undoing. Refuse to end or label your story with failure. You have a God who has won it all, and He isĀ your strength forever.
