The Blessing SG – a collaboration by almost 800 pastors, elders and worship leaders in Singapore – was released on 8pm on Pentecost Sunday, 31 May, 2020.
According to the organisers of #TheBlessingSG, a total of 772 church leaders from the whole spectrum of denominations participated in the crowd(of witnesses)-sourced project, spanning 177 churches.
The virtual choir includes 512 Senior Pastors, Elders, worship pastors and worship leaders, accompanied by 260 other singers or choir members.
The full version of the video – first teased in a 10-second clip on 28 May – was published on theblessingsg.com, and on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
This uniquely Singapore version of The Blessing (originally written and performed by Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Church) featured the Aaronic Blessing from Numbers 6:22-26 sung in the national languages of English, Mandarin, Bahasa and Tamil, as well as in Sign Language.
Similar crowd-sourced versions of the song saw more than 65 churches and organisations unite for The Blessing UK, while closer to home, more than 80 churches did the same for The Malaysia Blessing, recognising the need for unity amid uncertain times caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The timing is doubly significant in Singapore: Apart from being Pentecost Sunday, the release also falls a day before the end of the the COVID-19 Circuit-Breaker. No better time to bless the land.
The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:22-26)
