Greetings, my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Without a doubt, we are going through uncertain times. It’s been about a week since the circuit breaker measures have been implemented. Many of us have had to cope with the disruptions to our daily lives.

As pastors, it is important for us to meet and encourage our flock. But due to the circuit breaker measures, Christian events have been cancelled. Worship services and cell meetings have gone online. I now preach to empty halls in front of a camera.

But all these are necessary and perhaps, even beneficial.

Personally, because of COVID-19, I have learnt about the power of media and technology. Now that sermons are online, more people from different parts of the world can access it. 

For example, our Lent services were shared online and we were able to reach out to many more people. This makes it easier for the Gospel to be preached to the ends of the earth.

Similarly, over the next month, we should see the positive changes that this situation brings when everything else seems to come to a standstill.

For example, we now have more time to be with our family members. We can pick up a new hobby and use this opportunity to read the Bible and other Christian literature. We can also take time to pray for others around the world. 

Let us seize these new opportunities that this season is bringing.

And as we spend time at home, we are also doing our part to support our healthcare workers by not adding to their burden should we become ill.

To all healthcare and frontline workers, we salute you. At this extraordinary time, you continue to serve with love and dedication – we bless you and pray for you. May God strengthen the work of your hands and protect you from harm as you bless Singapore with your services.

John Wesley said that we are to do all the good we can, wherever we are. Brothers and sisters, this is a chance for us to do our part for Singapore.

It is not just our social responsibility, but also our testimony. In this way, together with the whole of Singapore, each one of us can put in our best efforts to help contain this outbreak.
