“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'”
In one sentence, John the Baptist encapsulates what is the single greatest act in human history – Jesus bearing the whole world’s sin.
Interestingly, sin is described in the singular tense – as if all the wrongdoings of the world were bundled into one and placed on the shoulders of Jesus. That’s a lot of sin to carry!
The magnitude of the guilt and shame that Jesus bore on humanity’s behalf is something we will never be able to comprehend, but knowing how undeserving we are of the Lamb of God should only increase our love for Christ.
Today, in your own special way, take some time to express your gratitude to Jesus.
