Fear, horror… there’s more than enough gruesomeness in our world today. Here in this moment, let’s focus on something good — here are 7 verses from the Bible which will foster faith and encourage you right now!

1. God is your shepherd

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

A rod is a sturdy wooden stick used by shepherds to fight off other animals that may try to prey on the sheep. A staff is a long and thin stick, often with a hook at one end, used to direct and pull the sheep back to the shepherd.

Together, the rod and the staff symbolise God’s protection and direction over us as His sheep. We can be assured that He is defending us from the enemy!

And even when we feel like we are too far gone, our Shepherd reaches out His staff to us and draws us back to Him.

2. God will shield you

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” (Psalm 91:4-6)

No matter what happens in the world and in our lives, we can rest in God’s faithfulness.

Because He loves us and is faithful to us, we know that God is always watching over us. We do not need to be afraid of anything when we know that our lives are in God’s faithful hands.

3. God is in control

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Jesus reminds us that while we may face troubles and tribulations in our lives, He has overcome the world through His death and resurrection on the cross.

If we find ourselves trapped and burdened by certain situations in life, take heart in knowing that God is in control and nothing falls out of His plan. Nothing surprises God!

We can have peace because life on this earth is not the end and God will certainly fulfil all His promises.

4. God will keep you safe

“Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:3-5)

Being in God’s presence gives us courage, because He is our refuge and will keep us safe.

If you are feeling fearful, anxious or troubled — cry out to God and seek His face.

As we dwell in His house and simply fix our eyes on Him, our hearts and minds will be filled with a peace that transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

5. God has saved you

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)

Not only do we belong to God because He is our Creator, He has also bought and redeemed us through Christ (Galatians 3:13).

Our identity as God’s children is an assurance that He loves us and cares for us. In fact, He loves us so much that He gave His one and only Son to die for us on the cross for our sins (John 3:16).

If God would pay such a heavy price to redeem us and call us His own, why would He forsake us now? No, He will never leave us nor forsake us — praise God that the Holy Spirit dwells within God’s children!

God loves you. If this is something you’re hearing for the first time, we invite you to receive His love in your life today!

6. God will provide for you

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

The Bible reminds us that we do not need to fear or worry about our needs in life because God will provide for us.

Stop striving aimlessly and pursuing earthly desires; find rest in God’s providence and goodness for us.

We are set free from fear and worry so that we can seek His kingdom and set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2)!

7. God’s love for you can never be taken away

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Nothing.

If you are dealing with fear, anxiety, worry, loneliness or any thoughts and emotions that are weighing you down today — pray that God’s love would fill your heart once again.

There is no fear in His love; His perfect love drives out all fear (1 John 4:18)!
