He is one of the world’s biggest stars, and often in the headlines for the wrong reasons. But while Justin Bieber is often portrayed living life in the lap of luxury, he was photographed recently in Mumbai spending time with underprivileged children.
Vision Rescue is a charity which aims to feed, educate, and train India’s street children. Its founder, Bijou Thampy, saw a real need in 2004 to reach these kids to give them a different future. Taking to the streets, the organisation now runs four buses, in which children are being taught numbers and alphabets and given a warm meal – a luxury some of them did not even dare dream about before. One of them even contains a mobile dental unit.
It was on one of these buses that Bieber was photographed.
“The stage was set to host him, a stadium full of people from all over the country waiting for him to appear, a chopper ready to fly him. The most celebrated young man in the world was wanting to spend more time with the most uncelebrated and the most neglected children of our city along with @visionrescue,” Bijou wrote on Instagram.
“He sat on the floor with them and took time to hear about the skills they were learning so that they could live with dignity.”
The pop star appears to be turning his back on his famous excesses of teenage fame.
In a 2015 interview with Complex, he said: “I just wanna honestly live like Jesus. Not be Jesus — I could never — I don’t want that to come across weird. He created a pretty awesome template of how to love people and how to be gracious and kind.”
