My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Have you ever been filled with shame over your sinful behaviour? Or felt it was useless to try and lead a holy life?
Like us, the readers of John’s letter would have struggled with sin too. The truth is that until Jesus comes again and we’re made perfect, we will still sin.
John tells the early believers that the goal is holiness, but there is still hope when they fail.
If you’re struggling with guilt and condemnation today, know that you have an advocate who pleads your case with God.
Even better than representing you before God, you’re forgiven because of what He has done for you on the Cross.
Will you forgive yourself today too?
