Eating and drinking are some of our most basic physical needs. It’s why workers prize the “iron rice bowl” — provision that cannot be taken away.
Singapore’s hectic culture can create a skewed focus on sustaining temporal life by striving to meet our basic needs. Running in this rat race, it can be difficult to look up and consider our spiritual needs and higher things.
That’s why Jesus was telling the crowd to lift their eyes above temporal life to eternal life. Jesus, the bread of life, wants us to come to Him.
What must we leave behind in order to make our way to Jesus?
That’s a question of eternal consequence, for when Jesus is taken into our hearts and received as Lord over our lives — we will live forever.
