God gave the first Christmas gift to us in the form of His only begotten Son Jesus more than 2,000 years ago.

Then there were the Three Wise Men, the first humans to present gifts at Christmastime. They started the whole gift exchange practice with exceeding joy (Matthew 2:10-11).

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:10-11)

Amid the flurry of festivities, Christmas decorations lights and gift exchanges, we must not forget that Jesus is the reason for the season and it is His birthday we are celebrating. It would be catastrophic to celebrate Christmas and get caught up with buying presents for everyone else – while forgetting all about Jesus.

Our King is, after all, the main star in this grandiose celebration and is most deserving of a gift – more than anyone else this Christmas.

However, we may ask: Doesn’t He already have everything? What more can we give Him that He doesn’t already have? But you’d be surprised to find that there are some things He wouldn’t have unless we choose to give it to Him. So here’s my gift list to Jesus.

MY 4 GIFTS TO THE KING

1. My love

I pray for a heart that will love the Lord with all my heart, soul, strength and mind, and the capacity to love my neighbour as myself (Luke 10:27).

2. My attention

I ask that the Lord will help take my eyes away from the world and set them unto His Word. May I learn to better study, meditate, and soak in His Word day and night so that I may be careful to do according to all that is written in it (Joshua 1:8).

3. My trust

I trust God with my life plans, and I want to learn to cooperate with His plans even when they seem illogical and make no sense, because I trust that His ways are better and higher than mine (Isaiah 55:8-9). God has a plan for my life that is good.

4. My life

I offer myself to the Lord as a living sacrifice, and pray that it will be holy and pleasing to God (Romans 12:1), that He will make every part of me an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13).

And that’s what I want to give Him this Christmas. Happy Birthday Jesus. ☺️
